Greetings!
I don’t know about you but it has been a challenging week. Work days have been long and that makes it tough to remain committed to writing. But we got it done and we’re headed in the right direction. However there will be no podcast this week. The 12-1PM timeslot doesn’t work for anyone and I’m having trouble keeping a cohost. So we’ll work on it next week and have it back and running then.
In the meantime let’s review what happened in the news this last week and the article links we discussed this week.
Week in Review Quick Hits
Justice Breyer retires
My take: If judges are going to insist they are impartial arbiters of the truth then they shouldn’t cave to special interest groups that encourage their retirement.
Biden’s pledge to appoint a particular sort of judge
PA Gubernatorial Debate
My take: Gerow, White, Martin, and McSwain stood out as the front runners. Guy Ciarrocchi could be in the running because he’s a competent speaker but he loses credibility when he makes jokes about his reliance on using pictures during his speeches.
The losers of this debate are Lou Barletta and Doug Mastriano. Not making these debates will cost support. Early signs are the organizers of these debates and interested onlookers are not pleased with these questionable decisions.
Stalled legislation in Congress
From voting rights to Build Back Better Congress is doing very little substantive work. This isn’t because of “gridlock” it’s because of their donors. Donors on the left demand extreme policies and those on the right love to donate to Republicans claiming to oppose those bills. Thus there is little incentive to do any actual policy work.
