The Middle Class and Cultural Decline
The existence of a robust middle class prevents cultural decline because of its superior moral and economic position that makes for a tolerant society.
The middle class, for instance, is in a superior moral position because it lacks the hubris and contempt for others that's so characteristic of elites. Instead the middle class even welcomes the elites into its ranks as a cautionary reminder that even the best can fall from grace.
Likewise the middle class is in a superior moral position because it lacks the desperate sense of resentment that characterizes the underclass. Instead the middle class even welcomes the underclass into its ranks as a triumphant sign of economic mobility over poverty and desperation.
All this is possible because of the middle class’ economic position.
Unlike the elite the middle class is not bothered by the endless pursuit of money. Instead the middle class lovingly celebrates its own through their hobbies, families, and service. These activities bring joy to the world and inspire charity in others.
Likewise unlike the underclass the middle class is not reduced to dependency on others. Instead the middle class has enough money to be free of reliance on the government. This dignified sense of independent workmanship inspires others to go to work and take care of themselves without burdening others.
Thus the middle class is in the best economic and moral position. And if the left succeeds in exterminating the middle class through high taxes and high spending we’ll be left with the world they’re always complaining about -- a world of haves and have nots. There’s no progress in that is there?
