In the 21st century the most concerning political problems are caused by the state and its unwanted presence its bureaucrats have in our lives. Further every major problem today is caused by this very push for systemic statism.
Poverty.
Crime.
Miseducation.
Joblessness.
Oppression.
In each case the nanny state has intervened to address these issues and made our lives worse.
FDR’s New Deal made the poor poorer.
Tough on Crime policies made tough criminals tougher.
Public schools schooled Americans in accumulating debt and begging for permission.
Jobs programs awarded permanent jobs to government workers while everyone else has been treated like temps.
The government, their proxies in education, and bureaucrats intentionally kept people down to protect union jobs.
In no circumstance has the state solved anything other than how to get politicians elected and to keep bureaucrats protected.
Collectivists made America this way. Beginning in the 1920s they launched a campaign using bottom up advocacy for a top down government.
From the resulting damage of this liberty destroying project came a new scapegoat -- systemic racism. The claim of prevalent and all encompassing systemic racism allowed politicians to deflect criticism away from the state and the peril it placed us in.
Of course to acknowledge this problem would naturally call for a solution -- one that won’t help politicians get re-elected by creating, and then denying responsibility for, racial disparities. Perhaps when politicians on both sides of the aisle take their noses out of their donors’ pocketbooks will this problem be sufficiently addressed — without more statist “help.”
