When Will Democrats Care About Democracy Again?
In the modern era Democrats show a disturbing contempt for the people
With the pervasive elitism of the progressive left we have to wonder: will Democrats ever care about democracy again?
When it came to lockdowns Democrats never cared about the suffering masses stuck in their homes because of authoritarian governors.
When it comes to education, Democrats never cared about the millions of children forced into the K-12 regime that rewards union leaders at the expense of children’s futures.
When it comes to mandates Democrats are OK with a tyrannical president forcing experimental vaccines on 100 million people without their expressed consent.
When then will Democrats care about democracy again?
Only when they go back to school and relearn political theory.
For it is the so-called “progressive” orthodoxy, sloppy theorizing, and a general ignorance of political philosophy that caused this crisis of democracy on the left to begin with.
And it started with Woodrow Wilson.
Woodrow Wilson began the progressive erasure of democracy by claiming that a president, a single man, could represent “the will of the people.”
His justification for this point is as simple as it is asinine.
Wilson argued we had a special affection in our hearts for presidential tyranny when he said that there is “ a law written on our hearts which makes us conscious of our oneness as a single personality in the great company of nations.”
But of course in the hearts of free American men no such metaphorical law has ever existed.
And of course it never will.
For progressives and their totalitarian fantasies, however, it’s a different story. From their hatred of life and the smallness of their aspirations comes a love of tyranny. For only big tyrants can make otherwise great people feel as insignificant and incapable as they do. And only in such a pathetic age is this self-diminution and tyrant worship called “progress.”
