For decades Democrats have proudly touted an allegiance to science, but have routinely ignored the most important science in a capitalist nation: economics.
Consider the various examples of the Democrats’ anti-scientific thinking about economics.
To begin, look at the “democratic” proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15. Case studies in places like Seattle -- which adopted a minimum wage increase in 2015 -- have demonstrated the total inability of the government to raise people out of poverty.
Accordingly economists are now saying Seatle’s minimum wage policy ““reduced hours worked in low-wage jobs by 6-7 percent, while hourly wages in such jobs increased by 3 percent ... consequently, total payroll for such jobs decreased.” In other words people in Seattle are bringing home less money. That Democrats continue to believe in the $15 minimum wage despite these facts points to a thoroughgoing rejection of science, the rejection of which is also evident in their thinking about government spending.
Economists very clearly tell us “ there is a rough consensus on a sustainable level of debt for a developed country, a ratio of total debt to GDP around 60 percent.” Despite this consensus Democrats continue to cook up big government schemes to bankrupt our nation in the service of their anti-scientific thinking.
This is evident where, according to non-partisan website Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget Senator Sanders’ fiscal plans from his 2016 presidential run “would caus[e] debt to rise from 74 percent of GDP in 2015… to 154 percent of GDP by 2026.” Senator Sanders’ plan isn’t a commitment to raising people out of poverty, but a commitment to ignore economic reality only rivaled by New York’s very own Andrew Cuomo.
In a press conference governor Cuomo proudly declared “we’re not going to put a dollar figure on human life.” What this really means is Cuomo -- and the rest of his lackeys-- wouldn’t be taking counsel from economists about keeping the economy afloat and mitigating risks. Instead Cumo’s efforts to mitigate at all cost ignored the science and as a result has left New York more bankrupt than ever before.
So what are we to make of Democrats’ anti-scientific rejection of economics?
We should note the left’s anti-scientific rejection of economics isn't just “anti-scientific” but predominantly religious in nature. A religion, for example, meets the following criteria:
Holds some objects to be more sacred than others i.e. Christ in Christianity
Has a hierarchical structure i.e. the papal structure in Christianity
Has a supreme or final state i.e. reaching heaven in Christianity or achieving nirvana in Hinduism
These are just a few of many conceivable criteria for what counts as a religion, but nevertheless we can see how Democrats’ beliefs accord with this test. For starters’ Democrats consider “the people” to be sacred and worthy of sacrifice at all costs. Likewise Democrats’ religious system has a clear hierarchical structure lead by politicians -- politicians like Bernie Sanders who are to lead us to the “revolution.” Lastly the Democrats’ religious system culminates in the final elimination of all inequality.
Thus to reject economics as a science in favor of religion isn’t itself scientific but dogmatic. If the left would remove religion from their politics perhaps we’d be that much closer to living in the utopia they’ve promised us.
